LASU Accounting Education Requirements 2026/2027: O’Level, UTME & Direct Entry

Source-checkedLast verified September 5, 2026Official source ↗

Accounting Education at Lagos State University (LASU) combines accounting knowledge with education and teaching preparation. That makes it important to check the programme itself rather than relying on the requirements for pure Accounting. The two routes may share some commercial subjects, but they are not interchangeable admissions choices.

Is Accounting Education a genuine LASU route?

Yes. LASU’s own academic records identify Accounting Education within the Faculty of Education, and current staff records in Educational Management include graduates and specialists in Accounting Education. The course should therefore be treated as a distinct education programme, not as another name for the Faculty of Management Sciences Accounting degree.

2026/2027 LASU screening baseline

LASU’s current 2026/2027 admission screening portal states that UTME applicants for full-time undergraduate programmes need at least 195 in the 2026 UTME, must choose LASU as first choice, and must upload their O’Level result to JAMB CAPS. A valid JAMB registration number is also required.

The 195 figure is the university-wide screening threshold shown on the portal. It is not a guaranteed Accounting Education admission mark. Course eligibility, available places and any programme-specific selection standard still apply.

O’Level subjects for Accounting Education

LASU’s course-requirements data for Accounting Education identifies English Language, Mathematics and Economics, together with an accepted Social Science subject, among the required O’Level subjects. Applicants should confirm the complete credit arrangement through LASU’s current Course Requirements Checker before submitting a screening application.

This matters because a candidate can have several commercial subjects and still miss a compulsory credit. Do not assume Commerce, Financial Accounting or another business-related subject automatically replaces Economics, Mathematics or English Language. Match your actual result against the wording in the live checker.

UTME combination: verify the current checker

LASU provides an official Course Requirements Checker that displays programme-specific O’Level and UTME requirements based on the JAMB Brochure. Use it to obtain the exact current UTME subject combination for Accounting Education.

Do not borrow the UTME combination for Accounting, Business Education or Economics Education simply because the programmes are related. A wrong UTME subject can make a candidate ineligible even when the O’Level result is otherwise strong.

Direct Entry into Accounting Education

The 2026/2027 LASU screening portal includes a Direct Entry route for applicants holding relevant OND, NCE, HND, A-Level or equivalent qualifications. Direct Entry candidates need a valid JAMB Direct Entry registration, must make LASU first choice, and must submit the required credentials.

For Accounting Education, the exact acceptable qualification, subject area and minimum grade should be checked for the current session. An NCE, ND or HND is not automatically accepted merely because it is post-secondary. Relevance to the programme and the current LASU/JAMB requirement matter.

Mode of study covered by this page

This page covers the standard full-time undergraduate route through LASU’s central admission screening. Do not assume that requirements for any separate diploma, sandwich, continuing-education or other non-full-time offering are identical. Where LASU opens another mode, use that mode’s own official application notice.

What the current application page shows

As of 22 September 2026, the official LASU admission portal is displaying the 2026/2027 screening exercise and offers entry points for UTME, Direct Entry and LASU JUPEB candidates. It instructs applicants to ensure LASU is first choice before proceeding and to upload O’Level results to JAMB CAPS.

That is evidence of the current admission cycle, but applicants should still check the portal immediately before payment because opening dates, closing dates and supplementary windows can change. A closed window later in the session should not be interpreted as proof that Accounting Education has been discontinued.

Common mistakes Accounting Education applicants make

Before you pay for screening

First, compare your O’Level subjects with the LASU checker. Second, confirm the exact UTME combination or Direct Entry qualification. Third, make sure LASU is first choice and that your O’Level result is visible on JAMB CAPS. Finally, open the current LASU screening portal rather than following an old payment link.

Official verification links

Use the LASU 2026/2027 Admission Screening Portal for current screening rules and the LASU Course Requirements Checker for course subjects. LASU’s current academic staff directory and Faculty of Education records provide additional confirmation that Accounting Education is an established LASU academic field.

Bottom line: Accounting Education is not the same application as Accounting. Confirm the education programme’s own subjects, meet the current screening baseline, and verify any Direct Entry qualification before committing to the application.

How to use this requirement in the current admission cycle

LASU's course checker gives the programme-specific O'Level and UTME subject pattern, while the current screening portal controls the live admission exercise. For 2026/2027 the screening portal requires LASU as first choice, a minimum UTME score of 195 for UTME candidates, the O'Level result on JAMB CAPS and the appropriate UTME/Direct Entry category. Treat the course requirement and the screening rule as two separate checks: you need both.

Before a change of course, compare your actual result line by line with the compulsory subjects. Do not assume a higher UTME score repairs a missing O'Level subject, and do not assume an ND, HND, NCE or JUPEB qualification accepted by one department is accepted by another. Where the Direct Entry paragraph is broad, use the current JAMB brochure and the institution's screening portal before submitting credentials.
