LASU Advertising Requirements 2026/2027: O’Level, UTME & Screening

Source-checkedLast verified September 5, 2026Official source ↗

Advertising at Lagos State University (LASU) sits within the university’s communication and media environment. LASU currently has a Department of Public Relations and Advertising in its School of Communication, with academic staff and teaching activity in advertising, public relations and strategic communication. Applicants should therefore read the course requirement as a communication programme requirement, not as a general business or marketing requirement.

Current LASU programme context

LASU’s School of Communication currently lists Journalism, Broadcasting, and Public Relations and Advertising as its main departments. The Public Relations and Advertising department has an active head of department and academic staff specialising in advertising and public relations. This provides current institutional evidence for the academic route behind the Advertising course record.

2026/2027 admission screening baseline

For the 2026/2027 session, LASU’s official admission screening portal states that full-time UTME candidates need at least 195 in the 2026 UTME. LASU must be the candidate’s first-choice institution, and the O’Level result must be uploaded to JAMB CAPS before screening.

The 195 score is a minimum screening baseline shown by LASU, not a guaranteed admission score for Advertising. Applicants still have to meet the course-specific subjects and whatever competitive selection standard applies to the programme.

O’Level subjects for Advertising

LASU’s course-requirements data identifies English Language, Mathematics and Literature in English, together with an accepted Arts or Social Science subject, among the required O’Level subjects for Advertising. Use the current LASU Course Requirements Checker to confirm the complete credit combination for the session in which you are applying.

Literature in English deserves special attention. Applicants sometimes assume that a strong set of Social Science subjects is enough for every communication programme. If the live course checker makes Literature compulsory for your selected Advertising route, another social-science credit should not be treated as an automatic replacement.

UTME subjects: do not use a guessed combination

LASU provides a live Course Requirements Checker for the exact programme-specific UTME combination. Use that source immediately before JAMB course selection, change of course or screening.

Related programmes such as Mass Communication, Public Relations, Marketing or Broadcasting can have overlapping subject expectations, but that does not make their UTME combinations interchangeable. The safest approach is to select Advertising in LASU’s checker and match the displayed subjects against your JAMB registration.

Direct Entry guidance

LASU’s current screening portal accepts Direct Entry candidates with relevant OND, NCE, HND, A-Level or equivalent qualifications, subject to the programme’s requirements. Direct Entry candidates need a valid JAMB Direct Entry registration, must choose LASU first, and are instructed to submit their credentials.

For Advertising, relevance matters. A diploma or higher qualification in communication, media, public relations, advertising or another related discipline may look relevant, but the final decision depends on the current LASU/JAMB requirement. Do not assume that every media or business qualification gives automatic 200-level or 300-level entry.

Mode of study

This guide addresses the full-time undergraduate admission route connected to LASU’s central 2026/2027 screening exercise. If LASU offers a separate certificate, diploma or other communication programme, its requirements and application process should be checked independently.

Current application status

As of 22 September 2026, LASU’s official screening portal is displaying the 2026/2027 admission exercise and offers a “Start Screening” route, with separate UTME, Direct Entry and JUPEB candidate categories. Candidates are told to make LASU first choice and upload O’Level results to JAMB CAPS.

Because screening windows can open, close or be supplemented during an admission cycle, verify the portal again immediately before payment. A closed application window later does not mean the Advertising programme itself has ceased to exist.

What to check before choosing Advertising

Official sources

Use the LASU 2026/2027 Admission Screening Portal for current-cycle eligibility and the LASU Course Requirements Checker for O’Level and UTME subjects. LASU’s Department of Public Relations and Advertising and School of Communication provide current programme context.

Bottom line: treat Advertising as a communication programme with its own subject rules. Verify Literature and the remaining O’Level credits carefully, then use LASU’s live checker rather than a copied UTME combination from another media course.

How to use this requirement in the current admission cycle

LASU's course checker gives the programme-specific O'Level and UTME subject pattern, while the current screening portal controls the live admission exercise. For 2026/2027 the screening portal requires LASU as first choice, a minimum UTME score of 195 for UTME candidates, the O'Level result on JAMB CAPS and the appropriate UTME/Direct Entry category. Treat the course requirement and the screening rule as two separate checks: you need both.

Before a change of course, compare your actual result line by line with the compulsory subjects. Do not assume a higher UTME score repairs a missing O'Level subject, and do not assume an ND, HND, NCE or JUPEB qualification accepted by one department is accepted by another. Where the Direct Entry paragraph is broad, use the current JAMB brochure and the institution's screening portal before submitting credentials.
