LASU Animal Science Requirements 2026/2027: O’Level, UTME & Direct Entry

Source-checkedLast verified September 5, 2026Official source ↗

Animal Science at Lagos State University (LASU) is an agriculture-based route concerned with animal production, nutrition and related livestock systems. LASU’s current Foundation programme list includes Animal Science, while current academic staff profiles in the Department of Agriculture include specialists in Animal Science and animal production. Applicants should therefore treat it as a distinct science-based agricultural programme.

2026/2027 screening requirement

LASU’s official admission screening portal states that UTME candidates seeking full-time undergraduate admission for 2026/2027 need at least 195 in the 2026 UTME, must choose LASU as first choice, and must upload the O’Level result they intend to use to JAMB CAPS.

The minimum 195 score allows an applicant to meet the university’s current screening baseline; it does not guarantee admission into Animal Science. Course-specific academic requirements and competitive selection still apply.

O’Level subjects for Animal Science

LASU’s course-requirements data identifies English Language and Chemistry, plus Biology or Agricultural Science, together with an accepted subject from Mathematics, Physics, Geography, Economics or another approved Science area. The complete current credit arrangement should be confirmed using LASU’s official checker.

Applicants should pay particular attention to the science subjects. A result may contain several agricultural or science credits but still be unsuitable if Chemistry or another compulsory subject is missing. Compare the exact result you will upload with the live LASU requirement rather than relying on a general agriculture admission summary.

UTME combination

For the exact UTME subjects, use LASU’s live Course Requirements Checker. The university identifies this checker as the source for programme-specific O’Level and JAMB UTME combinations.

Do not assume Animal Science must use the same UTME combination as Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension, Fisheries or another agricultural programme. Confirm Animal Science itself on the official source before finalising JAMB choices.

Direct Entry route

LASU’s 2026/2027 screening portal provides a Direct Entry category for holders of relevant OND, NCE, HND, A-Level or equivalent qualifications. Candidates need a valid JAMB Direct Entry registration, must choose LASU as first choice and must submit the required credentials.

For Animal Science, the exact acceptable qualification, discipline and grade remain programme-specific. A qualification in agriculture or a related science may be relevant, but applicants should verify the current rule rather than assuming automatic 200-level or 300-level placement.

Mode of study covered

This guide covers the full-time undergraduate route connected to LASU’s main admission screening. JUPEB and other pathways should be checked separately, even when they can eventually lead to the same degree.

Current application status

As of 22 September 2026, LASU’s official screening portal is showing the 2026/2027 exercise, including a “Start Screening” route and separate categories for UTME, Direct Entry and LASU JUPEB candidates. The current portal also repeats the first-choice and JAMB CAPS O’Level requirements.

Always check the portal immediately before paying because the university can change dates, close a window or open a supplementary stage. A closed application window later in the cycle would not by itself mean that Animal Science has been withdrawn.

Animal Science application checklist

Official sources

Use the LASU 2026/2027 Admission Screening Portal and the LASU Course Requirements Checker. LASU’s current Foundation course list identifies Animal Science, and its academic staff directory includes Animal Science and animal-production expertise within Agriculture.

Bottom line: start with the exact science credits, then verify the live UTME or Direct Entry requirement. The admission score and the subject combination are separate eligibility checks, and both matter.

How to read the Biology or Agricultural Science option

Where LASU lists Biology or Agricultural Science as an alternative, check which of those subjects appears at the required credit level on the result you intend to use. Do not count both as though they automatically replace Chemistry or another compulsory subject. Animal Science depends heavily on biological and chemical foundations, so the subject pattern should be treated as an eligibility checklist rather than a loose recommendation.

If you are using two O’Level sittings, confirm from the current LASU/JAMB source that your chosen combination is permitted for the session and that every required subject appears across the accepted result combination.

How to use this requirement in the current admission cycle

LASU's course checker gives the programme-specific O'Level and UTME subject pattern, while the current screening portal controls the live admission exercise. For 2026/2027 the screening portal requires LASU as first choice, a minimum UTME score of 195 for UTME candidates, the O'Level result on JAMB CAPS and the appropriate UTME/Direct Entry category. Treat the course requirement and the screening rule as two separate checks: you need both.

Before a change of course, compare your actual result line by line with the compulsory subjects. Do not assume a higher UTME score repairs a missing O'Level subject, and do not assume an ND, HND, NCE or JUPEB qualification accepted by one department is accepted by another. Where the Direct Entry paragraph is broad, use the current JAMB brochure and the institution's screening portal before submitting credentials.
