LASU General Admission Requirements: UTME, Direct Entry and JUPEB

LASU’s admission screening portal separates applicants into UTME, Direct Entry and LASU JUPEB categories. Each category has its own eligibility rules, but they share an important principle: the University expects candidates to use the correct JAMB route, satisfy the requirements for the intended course and complete the current LASU screening process.

The figures below reflect the official 2026/2027 admission screening information verified on September 5, 2026. A threshold can change in a later session, so use this page as the stable requirements baseline and check later LASU notices for session-specific changes.

UTME / 100 Level requirements

For 2026/2027, LASU requires UTME candidates to score at least 195, make Lagos State University their first-choice institution and use a valid JAMB registration number. The official screening portal also requires the candidate’s O’Level result to be uploaded to JAMB CAPS.

The 195 score is a screening threshold, not a universal course cut-off and not an admission guarantee. Some programmes are more competitive, and every applicant must still satisfy the O’Level and UTME-subject combination published for the chosen programme.

O’Level and course-specific requirements

LASU provides a course-requirements checker based on the JAMB brochure. It lists the O’Level subjects and UTME combination for each programme. The University’s screening FAQ also makes clear that candidates can be disqualified for failing the minimum number of relevant O’Level credits or for missing compulsory or elective subjects.

Do not stop at “I have five credits.” Check whether your five credits are the five your intended course requires. Some programmes may require six relevant O’Level credits under the applicable rule. This is especially important for applicants using two sittings or considering a course change.

Direct Entry

LASU lists OND, NCE, HND, A-Level and equivalent qualifications among its Direct Entry pathways. Direct Entry candidates must have a valid JAMB Direct Entry registration, select LASU as first choice and satisfy the qualification requirement for the exact programme.

The screening portal also instructs Direct Entry applicants to submit hard copies of their credentials to the Admissions Office. A general qualification such as “I have an HND” therefore does not by itself confirm eligibility; relevance, grade and programme rules still matter.

LASU JUPEB route

LASU treats its JUPEB candidates as a separate screening category. For the 2026/2027 exercise, this category was for participants in the 2025/2026 LASU JUPEB programme who had selected LASU as first choice, held the required JUPEB result slip and had a JAMB registration number.

JUPEB is not a shortcut around programme requirements. The result subjects and final admission route must still match the programme conditions.

Lagos State indigeneship verification

LASU conducts a separate indigeneship verification exercise for candidates claiming Lagos State origin. For 2026/2027, Lagos-origin first-choice candidates who met the published UTME threshold were invited to the exercise. Passing or completing indigeneship verification is not the same as receiving admission; it is an additional verification step for candidates relying on that status.

Common reasons a LASU screening can fail

LASU’s official screening FAQ lists several reasons a candidate may be disqualified, including incomplete O’Level results, failure to satisfy the age rule used for the exercise, falsified JAMB information, not choosing LASU, and failure to meet the compulsory or elective O’Level subjects for the programme.

This is why the safest preparation is to verify your records before paying. If you recently changed LASU to first choice, allow time for the JAMB record to reach the University. If you are considering another course after screening, confirm that both your UTME subjects and O’Level subjects fit the new course before re-screening.

Practical checklist before screening

• Confirm LASU is your first choice on JAMB.
• Upload the correct O’Level result to JAMB CAPS at an accredited CBT centre.
• Check the LASU course requirement for your exact programme.
• Direct Entry applicants should prepare the relevant post-secondary credentials and JAMB DE details.
• Do not pay for screening until your candidate category and current portal are clear.

What meeting the minimum does — and does not — mean

Meeting the general requirements means you may be eligible to continue with the institution’s admission process. It does not guarantee admission. Departmental subject combinations, programme capacity, screening performance, aggregate scores, document verification and JAMB/CAPS processing can still affect the final outcome.

If your intended course has a separate O’Level, UTME or Direct Entry requirement, that course-specific rule takes priority over a general summary. Before you pay or submit an application

• Confirm that the application or screening window is currently open on the institution’s official portal.
• Check the exact course requirements rather than relying on a general cut-off score alone.
• Make sure your name, O’Level details and JAMB information are consistent before submission.
• Use official payment channels. Do not send passwords, JAMB profile codes, PINs or card details to LAG Institutes or an unofficial agent.
• Keep copies of payment receipts, acknowledgement slips and any screening or verification documents you generate.
