UNILAG General Admission Requirements: UTME, Direct Entry and DLI

UNILAG separates full-time undergraduate admission from Foundation, Distance Learning Institute, postgraduate and other routes. That distinction matters because a requirement that applies to a regular 100 Level UTME candidate may not apply in exactly the same way to a DLI or Foundation applicant.

For full-time undergraduate admission, the University states that entry is through UTME or Direct Entry. Candidates must satisfy the Department’s O’Level requirement, complete the University screening process and meet the age and admission conditions for the session. Course-specific requirements remain important even where the University publishes a general screening threshold.

UTME / 100 Level admission

UNILAG’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME notice required candidates to make the University their first choice and score at least 200 in the UTME before registering for screening. The University’s general undergraduate page also states a minimum UTME score of 200 for full-time undergraduate admission. A future session can change the screening threshold, so later official notices should always be checked.

For the 2026/2027 screening exercise, UNILAG required five relevant O’Level credit passes at one sitting, including English Language and Mathematics. The exact additional subjects depend on the programme. A candidate who satisfies the general 200 threshold but lacks the required O’Level or UTME subject combination for the intended course is not automatically eligible for that course.

Age and O’Level upload requirements

For 2026/2027, UNILAG stated that candidates who would not be sixteen years old by September 30, 2026 were not eligible. The University also required O’Level results to be uploaded to JAMB CAPS and to the UNILAG application portal within the published admission timeline. These are session-sensitive rules, so the current year’s screening notice remains the controlling source.

Direct Entry

Direct Entry applicants must use the JAMB Direct Entry route and satisfy the O’Level requirement for the intended programme as well as the programme’s accepted post-secondary qualification. UNILAG’s published course requirement documents show that acceptable qualifications differ by department: some routes accept JUPEB or A-Level combinations, while others may consider relevant OND, HND or degree qualifications at specified grades.

Do not assume that holding an ND, HND, NCE or first degree automatically qualifies you for 200 Level. The exact qualification, subjects and grade required are programme-specific. UNILAG’s admission procedures also require Direct Entry candidates to present the appropriate JAMB and previous-qualification documents during registration and verification.

DLI is a separate admission route

UNILAG’s Distance Learning Institute operates separately from regular full-time admission. For the 2026/2027 DLI exercise, the University stated a minimum of five credits in SSCE/GCE/NECO O’Level, including English Language and Mathematics, at not more than two sittings. DLI also publishes different Year One, Year Two and Year Three entry pathways depending on the applicant’s qualification.

This means a student who does not fit the full-time Post-UTME route should not simply apply through DLI without checking the DLI programme rules. The study mode, available courses and entry year are separate decisions.

Course choice and screening performance

UNILAG requires candidates to sit the University Post-UTME examination and obtain the minimum score required for the admission exercise. That means the UTME threshold is only the first gate. Your eventual admission position depends on the University’s screening process and the requirements of the course you selected.

Before changing to a course that appears less competitive, check its O’Level, UTME-subject and Direct Entry requirements first. A course change that solves a score problem but creates a subject-combination problem is not a useful change. Use the current UNILAG course requirement document and the official admission notice together.

Documents and checks to complete early

Before screening or registration, make sure your JAMB details, O’Level result, date of birth and course choice are correct. Direct Entry applicants should also prepare the qualification used for entry and any acknowledgement or result documents required by the University. UNILAG’s registration procedure includes original-credential sighting, so an online application should not be treated as the final verification step.

What meeting the minimum does — and does not — mean

Meeting the general requirements means you may be eligible to continue with the institution’s admission process. It does not guarantee admission. Departmental subject combinations, programme capacity, screening performance, aggregate scores, document verification and JAMB/CAPS processing can still affect the final outcome.

If your intended course has a separate O’Level, UTME or Direct Entry requirement, that course-specific rule takes priority over a general summary. This is why LAG Institutes treats this page as a starting point rather than a substitute for the institution’s current admission notice and JAMB brochure.

Before you pay or submit an application

• Confirm that the application or screening window is currently open on the institution’s official portal.
• Check the exact course requirements rather than relying on a general cut-off score alone.
• Make sure your name, O’Level details and JAMB information are consistent before submission.
• Use official payment channels. Do not send passwords, JAMB profile codes, PINs or card details to LAG Institutes or an unofficial agent.
• Keep copies of payment receipts, acknowledgement slips and any screening or verification documents you generate.
