YABATECH Computer Science Requirements: ND and HND Entry Guide
This page was last verified September 8, 2026. Admission information can change quickly, so confirm the current position before paying or applying.
YABATECH’s Computer Technology department publishes a detailed entry baseline for National Diploma Computer Science and an older Higher National Diploma Computer Science route. The department page is useful because it spells out the subject requirements rather than giving only a generic “five credits” statement. However, applicants should also be aware that newer YABATECH HND notices use newer programme names in the computing area, so the historical HND title should not be treated as proof of the exact current application name.
ND Computer Science O’Level requirements
The department states that ND applicants need five O’Level credit passes at SSCE or an equivalent examination. The compulsory subjects are English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The fifth credit can come from the department’s published accepted group, which includes subjects such as Statistics, Geography, Further Mathematics, Economics, Biology and Computer Studies or Data Processing. The department also states that the credits may be obtained in not more than two sittings.
This is a programme-specific requirement. If your result has five credits but does not contain the required science and mathematics subjects, the raw number of credits is not enough.
UTME subject combination for the ND route
The department lists English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as the UTME subjects for Computer Science. When preparing for admission, compare this departmental information with the current YABATECH/JAMB requirement checker because an institution can update its admission data for a later session.
Our separate YABATECH Computer Science ND course page is the cleaner place to check the current ND requirement record on LAG Institutes. This article explains the official department evidence and the relationship between the older ND/HND description and newer application naming.
What the department says about HND entry
The historical department page says HND applicants must satisfy the corresponding SSCE requirements and hold a National Diploma in Computer Science from an appropriately accredited institution. It describes a Lower Credit route with at least one year of relevant post-ND work experience and a Pass route with a longer period of relevant post-ND cognate experience.
That is useful evidence about the academic progression historically attached to Computer Science, but it should not be read as a promise that an application called “HND Computer Science” is currently offered under that exact title.
Current HND naming needs a second check
More recent YABATECH HND material identifies computing routes such as Networking and Cloud Computing and Software and Web Development, and YABATECH has documented programme-name evolution in this area. If you already hold an ND in Computer Science and want to progress to HND, check the live application portal and the current HND notice for the exact programme title available in your session.
This protects applicants from a common mistake: using an older department page to assume that the historical programme label is still the current form label. The older page can support the feeder and subject baseline while the current portal determines what you can actually apply for now.
Before applying: match the requirement to your route
- ND applicant: confirm the five O’Level credits and the published UTME combination.
- HND applicant: confirm the current HND programme name, relevant ND discipline, grade requirement and post-ND experience.
- Do not interpret the ND UTME subjects as a requirement for an HND applicant to sit UTME again.
- Use the live YABATECH application portal to confirm the current session and programme availability.
If the current portal and an older department page differ, use the newer official current-session instruction for the application step while retaining the department page as evidence of the academic baseline it actually documents.
How to verify before you act
Admission information can change after a page is published. Use the linked official source as the final check before you pay, upload credentials, change an institution choice or travel for a screening or clearance step. If the institution later publishes a newer notice for the same session, the newer official notice takes priority over an older guide.
LAG Institutes is an independent information platform. We do not make admission decisions, collect institution login passwords or promise admission outcomes. You can also use the Admission Finder to compare routes and the outdated-information form if an official page changes before our next verification.
